CHAPLAINCY PROGRAM

The Platte County Sheriff’s Office is committed to providing assistance to its employees and their families in their time of need. Additionally, the Chaplain can sometimes be of assistance to the public when dealing with the Department in sensitive situations. Some of the areas where the Chaplaincy Program can be of assistance are as follows:
  • Assist department members when there is an accident or incident involving serious injury or death, and there is a need to provide comfort and counsel to injured persons and their families.
  • Provide advice, counsel and spiritual support to department personnel and their families upon request.
  • Assist in making referrals for qualified and specialized professional counseling as needed.
  • Participate in department and community events by giving invocations, addresses, and benedictions.
  • Assist in death notifications of homicide, suicide, accident or natural causes.
  • Provide counseling and spiritual support to inmates housed in the Platte County Detention Facility.
  • Provide direction and support of volunteer workers for all inmate programs.
  • Participate in in-service training classes for community and department personnel.
  • Coordinate spiritual care in emergency management responses.
  • Provide liaison with other religious leaders in the community.

MEET THE CHAPLAIN

Reverend Joseph J. Taloff graduated from Ottawa University, Ottawa, Kansas with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Counseling and from the St. Paul School of Theology, Kansas City, Missouri with a Master of Theology. Reverend Taloff was ordained as a Minister in 1976 by the Missouri West Annual Conference and has served in several churches throughout the state. Reverend Taloff retired in 1990 and currently serves in a volunteer position for the Platte County Sheriff’s Office.
