New Applicants must have with them a current government issued picture ID showing a Platte County address or military identification and orders stationing the service member in Missouri, proof of social security number, documentation showing successful completion of the required firearms safety course from a Platte County approved instructor. The total cost for a new CCW permit is $95.25; please have a certified check or money order for $33.25 payable to the Missouri State Highway Patrol and a certified check, money order or cash in the amount of $62.00 exactly. The applicant must demonstrate knowledge of firearms safety training. This is done by passing a safety course or one of two alternatives. One alternative is a firearms safety course given by or under the supervision of any state, county, municipal or federal law enforcement agency. This does not specifically approve military service unless connected to military law enforcement. The other alternative is to be a qualified firearms safety instructor. Applicants who have received firearms training provided by a Federal, State, County or municipal law enforcement agency or who are qualified firearms safety instructor do not require additional training to apply for a certificate of qualification to carry a concealed firearm. Applicants falling under this provision must follow the above application procedure and present a copy of the firearms training certificate at the time of application. Effective October 11, 2003 , House Bill 349 allows all Missouri peace officers to carry a concealed weapon whether on or off duty, whether in or out of their jurisdiction. The Sheriff’s Office does not have any additional information regarding private property owner’s requirements for posting signs prohibiting concealed firearms on their property. House Bill 349 states the sign size must be a minimum 11”x14” with a minimum of 1” letters detailing that firearms are prohibited. Applicants who have received their certificate of qualification to carry a concealed firearm need to be aware that the Missouri Office of Revenue will require additional fees to have the concealed carry endorsement on their driver’s license or their non-driver’s license I.D. Renewal Applicants should present their current valid Missouri Driver’s License or Non-Driver’s I.D. containing a valid CCW Endorsement and displaying a Platte County address. A non-refundable fee of $50.00 cash (please have exact amount) or Money Order made payable to Platte County Sheriff's Department. Late Fees are assessed at a rate of $10.00 per month for a maximum six (6) months Cash (please have exact amount) or Money Order made payable to Platte County Sheriff's Department. Endorsements not renewed within 6 months are Expired and NOT Renewable. Change(s) must have occurred within 30 days of renewal application. Sheriff Anderson suggests for your safety and the safety of our deputies, that should you come in contact with one of our deputies and are carrying a concealed firearm, you inform the deputy in a calm manner the location of the firearm or that you have a firearm on your person. Keep your hands away from the firearm. If you are in your vehicle, keep your hands on your steering wheel until otherwise instructed by the deputy. Sheriff Anderson would also to remind individuals that guns and alcohol do not mix. Possession of a firearm while Intoxicated is a class D Felony.
